Lunch Box 548: Dueling octopi
Today I have a colorful melange of... colorful stuff. In no particular order: hot dog octopi, baked purple sweet potato, baked sweet potato, zucchini & onion stir-fry, simmered shiitake mushrooms, some Kool-Aid pickles, and grapefruit and coconut gel. The Kool-Aid pickles were made with grape Kool-Aid, which tastes good but makes for dark, icky-looking pickles. Next time I'll use cherry.

Today's my 40th birthday. Yay me. I suppose I should have packed a cupcake or something. Ah well, I'll probably get a cupcake on my way home for dinner tonight.

Forty?? Sorry if I seem astonished, but I was thinking late 20s, early 30s.

To explain, I was a fresh faced 12 year old surfing the information super highway thinking I was cooler than a PowerGlove in what only feels like the recent past. Reality considered, it falls just shy of over a whopping decade ago.

My earliest years were all about He-man (which I think was mostly before my time, but I had a lot on VHS somehow), then Disney started rolling out Rescue Rangers, Duck Tales, Darkwing, Tale Spin, etc... Reboot was fresh in my mind when the internet fell in my lap and I hit the Negapage. I had assumed in my youthful folly that some really cool teenager into the same stuff as me had put it all together. I'm pretty sure I'd have described it as alphanumeric.

Since then, I have been amused by, bookmarked, forgot, refound, bookmarked, forgot again, refound your site and been hit with nostalgia before eventually consistently watching your bento posts. Never once did it cross my mind that perhaps my initial assumption was wrong.

Ma'am, I have gone through 4 computers, 3 schools, 2 cats, and managed to just last month get married. I'm 21 now, still into the same stuff and don't feel like I've changed a bit, though I'm sure I have. I've (forgive my presumption, I admit I use this term loosely) known you for running on 10 years and not realized my mistake.

You're the most pixelatious 40 year old I think I'll ever encounter (I mean, honestly... nerdcore? Rock on!) and I hope to be half as cool at your age. My apologies for being long winded, but I didn't want to just pop in with a quick, insincere happy birthday.

Really, honestly, I hope your birthday is a happy one.

Wow! I didn't know anyone had been watching my stuff for so long. Thank you for posting - it really was interesting. And I know what you mean about being into the same things you were into as a kid, not feeling you've changed - I get the same feeling. It sometimes weirds me out. Then I shrug and say, "OK, I'm old enough to know better. I'm also old enough not to give a damn!"

Thank you, and I'll try to have a happy birthday. I plan to celebrate tonight by going home and dancing my age in DDR 10-footers.

Well, since it's been a while we should have another gathering soon, and I can bake something for you! :) I know I said so already, but happy birthday, otherwise known as Ha'oli la Hanau!

That would be cool! It's been forever since I ate something baked that I didn't make myself.

My birthday cake is baking in the oven now. Except is it not cake. It is pie. I wanted pie, and pie I shall have!
